A capybara. A bicycle. One more hill.

THE IDEA, MADE REAL

A playful browser cycling game about a capybara riding through a colorful mountain landscape. Pick up fruit, build speed, keep your balance, and see how far the next run takes you.

CappyBiking is published on itch.io and continues to evolve. A public before-and-after update documents the move from a simple low-poly course to a richer world, alongside asset compression work to keep it playable in a browser.

THE CENTRAL QUESTION

How much personality can you put into one more run?

CappyBiking uses a simple cycling loop as a reason to build a world that feels cheerful, readable, and inviting to return to.

01 / AT A GLANCE

Instantly understandable

A capybara rides a bicycle through hills, collecting fruit and chasing a better run.

02 / AT A GLANCE

A world in motion

A mountain course, roadside animals, and a playful visual identity give the ride its character.

The HTML5 release on itch.io is available without a desktop installation.

01THE GAME

An unlikely cyclist. A very clear goal.

The premise is deliberately approachable: ride a bicycle as a capybara, move through the course, collect fruit for boosts, and try to improve the next attempt. Simple keyboard controls make the central action easy to discover: accelerate, lean, and restart.

The appeal comes from the relationship between movement and setting. Hills create rhythm, pickups create short-term targets, and the surrounding animals and landscape make the course feel like a place. It is a small playable world with a clear identity.

02THE ITERATION

Make the world richer without losing the ride.

The published development update shows a substantial visual revision, from a sparse low-poly course to a more detailed mountain environment. Keeping the before-and-after images visible makes the iteration itself part of the project story: a released game can continue to improve after people first encounter it.

Browser delivery creates a practical constraint on that visual ambition. The update describes asset compression work, and the repository includes a 3D asset pipeline. The design challenge is to add atmosphere while keeping the route, rider, pickups, and immediate action readable.

03THE RELEASE

A finished invitation to play, with room to grow.

CappyBiking is published on itch.io and marked as in development. That creates a place for the playable build, screenshots, updates, and feedback to live together. The release is an accessible artifact of the work, even while the game continues to evolve.

The project broadens my work beyond utility software into game feel, scene composition, and the small decisions that make someone want another attempt. It is a different kind of engineering feedback loop: the interface is the game, and a successful interaction is something the player can feel.

FROM INTENT TO OUTCOME

How it comes together.

  1. Get rolling

Use W or the up arrow to accelerate into the course.

  2. Read the terrain

Lean with A and D as the route changes under the bike.

  3. Chase the pickups

Collect fruit, build speed, and try to extend the run.

  4. Go again

Press R to restart and take another attempt.

THE TAKEAWAY

Build a world worth another lap.

CappyBiking is a study in turning a small gameplay loop into a recognizable world, then improving that world in public while keeping it available to play.
